Foodie Queen!

This month’s sponsor was Find Me the Leads

Find Me The Leads and it’s Chief Go Getter, Leisa Pickles, took to the stage to share her journey from Mars to Newark.

Find Me The Leads helps food and drink brands get their products into more stores, menus and consumers cupboards. When lockdown came into force, Leisa realised she had a network of suppliers and created a Facebook group, To My Front Door UK/Newark, to help connect and educate consumers about the options locally. Since it’s inception, it has grown to a network of over 3,500 members sharing their experiences of local food and drink suppliers. With her network, Leisa was able to pull together a champagne reception for a business celebrating a new office, orchestrating 7 different suppliers for their event. This Christmas, she is also spreading the Christmas joy in the form of hampers full of local produce. Another initiative Leisa cooked up is the Newark Foodie map, guiding visitors to cafes and eateries in the area. Version 2.0 is in the making and maps have been spread around venues across the county promoting Newark.

If you share your experience of a local business on To My Front Door UK/Newark, you will enter a draw to win a £20 voucher for Bentley’s Fish & Chip shop on Middle Gate.

One Degree Training!

I was told an alarming stat recently. To recruit a staff member can cost between £7,000 & £22,500 per person. I thought that was incredible. The amount varies on the level you’re recruiting into, and includes the direct and indirect costs; the lower the level being employed within, the lower the cost. That means that a company that’s able to develop staff, and make them want to remain, and grow, within the company, the cheaper the recruitment process will be..

At One Degree Training and Coaching I specialise in people focussed leadership. I support managers to become a leader who is able to empower, motivate, and maximise the potential of their workforce, who can provide their team with the investment they need to want to work hard and help the business excel. Because when an individual feels invested in, they return that invest in shovelfuls.

To achieve this, I have 3 levels of services:

  1. 4 workshops ideal for junior leaders, those looking to take on more leadership responsibilities, or established leaders looking to refresh their skills.
  • A 90-day leadership program, ideal for leaders who want to increase the productivity, and resilience of their team, in a sustainable manner.
  • A 12-month leadership program, ideal for senior leaders looking to improve retention, their employee’s connection with their business, reduce recruitment costs in terms of both money and time spent, and improve output at all levels.

Raiders of New Ark

Rachel from Children’s Bereavement Centre thanked those members that entered and came to Newark Dragon Boat Festival as they raised a staggering £31,586 between them and Beaumond House Hospice. They also announced the winner of the “Best Dressed” team were the Raiders Of New Ark (made up of Newark Business Club members) and the highest fundraising team were Motorfinity. Well done to all those that supported the event and it will be back in 2023 on Sunday 17th September.

Midlands Mayor

Devolution was the topic of discussion when the Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Ben Bradley MP took to the stage. Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby & Derbyshire Councils have submitted plans to establish a new East Midlands Mayoral Combined Authority to transfer powers and funds down from national government to local government.

If approved, it would mean significantly more funding for services in our region. More major decisions made locally, near the people they affect and give our region a bigger voice. The main areas of powers passed down from Whitehall are based around economic growth and job creation, transport and infrastructure and skills and training.

There is hope that Leicester also join the team with the coming months and discussions are ongoing.
