Welcome to this month’s amazing event. We had brilliant networking sessions and mind-blowing speakers all with a room full of people wanting to grow and develop their businesses, and a great breakfast provided by Cox Events
This month we mixed things up, starting with our Charity of the Quarter presentation:
We heard presentations from nominees, Home Start – Sara Grant, Mary Elizabeth Siebel – Malcolm Ellison and Newark Women’s Aid – Marlene Ferris (who unfortunately couldn’t make it)
Following these presentations, attendees were given a token to vote for the charity we wanted to win, with the announcement being shared at the end of the meeting.
A cheque was presented to Sara Grant at Home Start for this quarter’s win – congratulations for winning a huge £1000!
BNA also kindly awarded Malcom Ellison from Mary Elizabeth Sibel a fantastic £250 for coming second.
Thank you to Newark Business Club, Newark Round Table and Keith Girling BNA for donating the prize money.
To nominate a charity for the next initiative, please email chairman@newarkbusinessclub.co.uk with the Charity name, Representative and Contact details.
Business Card Draw Before the round table networking, John Jenkison from The HR Dept was picked for our existing member write up prize and David Gates from Create Studios Media was our newbie winner!
Looch wowed us all with his amazing mind-reading techniques using 3 unsuspecting volunteers from the crowd and reading their minds in front of us all. And with with some further audience participation from Paul of Brand Newark and bit of maths from us all on our phones, we somehow arrived at the meeting date 10, 06. 2022- amazing!

John Jenkison hales from New Zealand and came over to the UK in 2000 to marry his now wife where they are bringing up their 2 teenage daughters on the Newark/Lincolnshire boarder. His HR career spans across 28 years in both New Zealand and the UK and has held senior HR positions in the car industry, print, financial, retail and manufacturing sectors.
John has always wanted to run his own business so set up The HR Dept: Newark & East Nottinghamshire in 2012 after spotting a gap in the small to medium business sector where employment law and HR advice seemed expensive and given by National or Global
Companies from call centres outside of the Newark/ Nottinghamshire area.
He said: “I found it odd that call centres or solicitors were giving expensive advice on people issues to business owners they didn’t know and often didn’t understand the impact the issues were having on the business’s performance and more importantly the mental
stress it was causing the business owner – it gave HR a bad name and put owners off employing people and growing their business. I wanted to set up a business where we could get to know the business owner and their people and deliver affordable HR services
including pragmatic employment law advice so they could enjoy running and growing their business. We now have a successful business and love having fun with our clients when delivering the service.”
Their HR services are tailor-made to suit your business, either on a pay-as-you-go basis or a fully insured retained HR support package and include:.
