Newark Business Club
It was a busy meeting for Newark Business Club as attendees met for the first session of the year. Networking was at an all-time high as people caught up with one another following the Christmas period and new club members made their introductions.
During the business card draw – where two local businesses gets highlighted either in the club newsletter or the Newark Advertiser – Newark Embroidery and Xposure Visual Communications were selected.
During the meeting, Amy Codd (Chair) and Francesca Tricarico (from Duncan & Toplis) encouraged attendees to show their support for the family of Daniel Harris, a local boy who passed away on 23rd December aged just six, by getting involved in the #dab4Daniel campaign.
Developments at Doubletree by Hilton, Lincoln
The sponsors of the January meeting were Karenza Soanes-Brown and Emma Waring from Doubletree by Hilton, the hotel and leisure specialists.
Following a significant investment in facilities at the Doubletree by Hilton in Lincoln, Karenza highlighted some of the new capabilities that the hotel and venue now boasts. The site has doubled its event space and can now offer two rooftop terraces with castle and cathedral views.
The addition of 45 high-spec guest bedrooms mean that the hotel is now the biggest in Lincoln, and thanks to a digital update guests can check-in via their phone and get access to their rooms without visiting reception.
Emma and Karenza invited club members to get in touch for corporate bookings and shared an extensive list of events taking place at the venue throughout the year.
A Club in Action!
James Fountain, Chair of the Action Group, introduced new members of the club to the work of the group, including its efforts to improve transport links and ease congestion, support a vibrant retail offer and liaise with councils and other stakeholders on behalf of local businesses.
He invited club members with an interest in driving developments to join the group and attend the next meeting.
Newark Castle Needs You
Floss Newman and Phil Beard from Newark Castle attended the meeting to provide some background to the Gatehouse Transformation Project, which was awarded £84,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2017.
The project, which will restore the castle’s gatehouse and install of a number of exhibitions, has been supported by the District Council, to aid tourism development within the town.
Floss and Phil invited club members to get involved in helping to shape the exhibitions and businesses to get in touch regarding partnership funding and volunteer support.
Phil confirmed that the project will need to secure at least £5,000 worth of volunteer time in-kind, which can include corporate volunteers from local businesses.
